The Best of MeTube 2

Last year I posted my favorite clips from the previous twelve months. I'm not going to make it to the two year mark, but I still came up with ten favorites since that posting.

Actually, I came up with more, but some links are no longer live, while others are in constant danger of coming down. So these are my top ten favorites that I hope will stay on YouTube for a long time to come. (The future will show us how ridiculous that last sentence turns out to be.)

Some Christmas Television

Our neighbors to the north had a few good sketches on SCTV. Here are a couple of Christmas-related ones: Los Hermanos McKenzie...

A (very) little blue-eyed soul

Michael McDonald first made it into the public's ear when he sang back up on Steely Dan's Katy Lied. He then hit his stride with the Doobie Brothers, and went on to appear on a lot of other artists's albums. He didn't have to be on them long - those distinctive pipes only needed a few moments to work their magic.

SCTV parodied this with their imagining of how the studio sessions went for the Christopher Cross song "Ride Like the Wind." Somehow, I can't help thinking this isn't far from the truth.

Perry Como Is Still Alive!

I do a little research for this site, looking for clips to show, and when I find one I like I write it down so's I won't forget it. But every now and then I find a clip that I cannot wait to post, and that's exactly what happened today.

This is Eugene Levy in his SCTV days, doing his impression of Perry Como.



You don't have to be familiar with Como's work to find this hilarious, but since it wouldn't hoit, here he is medleying with the Carpenters.

Battle of the PBS Stars

Longtime readers will remember my earlier posting of Mister Rogers testifying before Congress. Here he is doing something a bit less, um, dignified, courtesy of SCTV.



I actually saw this when I was a kid. My sisters & I watched my dad changing the channels, and he landed on PBS just as they were showing this. We kids absolutely lost it, especially at the moment that occurs here at 2:12. A quarter century or so's gone by, and it's still a riot to me.
